Do you know someone who deserves recognition? Is someone you work with about to retire, publish a paper, obtain certification, or receiving an award? Please share it with us so we can all join in congratulating that person. Submissions can be sent to Elisha Sorum at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It’s been a busy year with lots of planning and change. We held a picnic in the park last September and it was great to see new faces and meet members in person. Due to the limited size of the organization, we combined the Secretary and Treasurer board positions and Jennifer Hornback has stepped up to take on the additional responsibilities of Treasurer on top of her responsibilities as Secretary. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Erica Zimmermann from North Las Vegas Police Department as our new Vice President. I’m excited to have her on the board to help alleviate some of the duties of other board members. She will be a great asset at the upcoming IAI conference in Reno.
Erica and I have had the opportunity to visit with many Crime Scene personnel at Las Vegas Metro Police Department and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office over the last year while trying to boost membership. It was a great experience to meet with the different groups of people and see first-hand the level of involvement individuals are willing to undertake to branch out and network with others in the field. Combined with the attempt at filling empty board positions, looking for input on trainings, and interactions via social media and email over the last year, it has been an eye-opening experience. Unfortunately, we simply can’t sustain an entire organization at this level. If you are looking to get involved in any capacity, now is the time to do it! We would really hate to see the NSDIAI fail due to lack of interest. It’s much easier to get involved on a local level than on an international level and participating on this level is very rewarding and educational. If you are looking for career development, this is a great place to start.
The 104th IAI International Educational Conference is almost upon us! It is scheduled to be held August 11-17 at the Peppermill Resort in Reno. The event planners had a record number of proposals for lectures this year and it promises to be a great time. We are still looking for volunteers at this time. If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible at email@example.com. I hope to see many of you there.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate member Sayer Dion-Smyczek from Washoe County on winning the raffle for a free registration to the 104th IAI International Educational Conference! I look forward to seeing you at the Peppermill.
